Paramaribo moped rider dies in fatal collision

A 17-year-old moped rider has died following a severe collision on the Van ’t Hogerhuysstraat in Paramaribo, Suriname. The accident involved a moped and a grey Toyota Sprinter driven by a 75-year-old motorist.

According to reports, the driver was positioned on the shoulder between the moped path and the roadway. As the teenager approached, the driver pulled onto the road to make a right turn through a breakthrough, crossing the path of the oncoming moped. The collision resulted in significant damage to both vehicles.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP). Despite medical efforts, the teenager succumbed to injuries sustained across his entire body and was pronounced dead by a physician.

The driver was reported to hold a valid Surinamese driver's license and was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The Suriname Fire Department was deployed to clean oil and blood from the roadway. The Herman Gooding police station is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
