Paramaribo opens new police assistance post in entertainment district

The Ministry of Justice and Security has officially opened a new police assistance post on Van Sommelsdijckstraat in the Paramaribo entertainment district. The initiative aims to increase police presence and improve surveillance in the area.

The outpost was established through a public-private partnership involving the Ministry, the Korps Politie Suriname (KPS), and the private sector. The location was selected following a security assessment and aligns with a designated security zone established by the president.

Minister Harish Monorath emphasized that safety is a collective responsibility, noting the importance of private sector cooperation. Acar Mehdé, CEO of Ramada Hotel Casino, expressed the private sector's willingness to support government initiatives that contribute to societal safety. The increased visibility is intended to bolster the sense of security for both citizens and tourists.
