Paramaribo police arrest four suspects following armed robberies
Police in Paramaribo have arrested four masked men in connection with a series of armed robberies. The suspects, identified as J. J. W. (22), D. H. V. (32), T. S. S. (26), and D. V. B. (31), were apprehended by the Regio Bijstandsteam Paramaribo (RBTP) after a pursuit involving their getaway vehicle.
In one incident on Margaritjistraat, two Cuban women on an electric bicycle were attacked by four masked men who arrived in a grey Toyota Vitz. The assailants fired shots, struck the victims in the face, and forcibly took gold earrings and cash.
In a separate robbery near an apartment complex on Riosiestraat, the suspects stole necklaces, mobile phones, and money. During that encounter, the suspects shot the tires of a victim's vehicle. Following an intensive search, law enforcement intercepted the suspects' vehicle at the intersection of Sagopalmstraat and Hoedenpalmstraat.
Authorities seized a firearm and the suspects' vehicle, and a portion of the stolen goods, including a necklace, was recovered. The suspects have been detained following consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the case has been transferred to the Recherche van Regio Midden Suriname (RMS).
