Paramaribo-Zuid officials to crack down on event noise pollution

District Commissioner Wennys Vijfhoven of Paramaribo-Zuid has announced stricter enforcement against event organizers who violate permit conditions, specifically regarding noise levels and operating hours. This move follows frequent complaints from residents about loud music, parties exceeding permitted times, and vehicles obstructing access for residents and emergency services.

Vijfhoven noted that while a policy of tolerance existed for years, the district administration will now work closely with the police to ensure compliance. Serious or repeated violations may result in the immediate shutdown of events and the potential rejection of future permit applications.

To further mitigate disturbances, officials are considering adjusting permitted event hours. Proposals include moving weekday end times from midnight to 22:00 and weekend end times from 02:00 to midnight. Vijfhoven emphasized that any such changes will require careful preparation and consultation with the community to balance the interests of entrepreneurs and residents.
