Paramotor pilot dies in Brazil after kite string hits equipment

A 41-year-old paramotor pilot, Adriano Azevedo dos Santos, died following an accident on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil. The incident occurred on Sunday (23) at Bopiranga Beach in Itanhaém when a kite string reportedly struck his equipment, causing the wing to rupture.

After losing lift, Santos fell approximately 10 meters. He was initially treated at Hospital Irmã Dulce in Praia Grande, where medical exams revealed a fractured tibia, a broken rib, and internal bruising. Due to his deteriorating condition and unstable blood pressure, he was transferred to Hospital Ana Costa in Santos. Despite undergoing surgery in the early hours of Monday (24) to control internal bleeding, he did not survive.

The Civil Police have registered the case as a suspicious death, an accidental death, and a completed crime of unknown authorship. Local authorities in Itanhaém noted that the use and sale of kite string (cerol) are prohibited by municipal law. The identity of the person flying the kite has not been determined.
