Paramount and South L.A. County cities see growth through local governance
Several cities within Los Angeles County, such as Paramount, Downey, South Gate, and Bellflower, are experiencing growth and stability through effective local governance. While parts of the City of Los Angeles face challenges with deficits, crime, and homelessness, these smaller municipalities have maintained vibrant downtowns and lower crime rates.
Paramount, a predominantly Latino city of over 50,000 residents, has seen its population grow by more than 40% since 1975. The city has managed to reduce its debt burden despite facing significant economic hardships in the 1980s following the departure of aerospace and automobile manufacturers. Success in these areas is attributed to attention to local details, such as maintaining parks, managing urban spaces, and rapid graffiti removal.
