Paramount+ cancels Criminal Minds: Evolution after season 20

Paramount+ has announced that the series Criminal Minds: Evolution will conclude with its 20th season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027. This upcoming season will mark the final chapter for the franchise, which originally debuted on CBS in 2005.

Showrunner Erica Messer expressed gratitude to the cast and crew following the decision. While production for the final season was reportedly completed in early fall of 2026, the series will return in 2027 to wrap up the story. Season 20 will be the first without actor Zach Gilford, who portrayed the serial killer Elias Voit.

Cast members, including A.J. Cook, Paget Brewster, Kirsten Vangsness, and RJ Hatanaka, shared their reactions on social media. Brewster described herself as an “agent free,” while Vangsness noted the bittersweet nature of the announcement, suggesting that there may still be stories worth telling on other platforms.
