Paramount Center hosts Hispanic Heritage Month display

The Paramount Center for the Arts is hosting a joint project for Hispanic Heritage Month, running from September 15 to October 15, focusing on Hispanic immigration to Central Minnesota. In collaboration with the Stearns History Museum and the Benton County Historical Society & Museum, the event features a display highlighting the histories of two specific families with deep ties to Benton County.

The display includes the story of Jose Alvero Saldana, who immigrated from Mexico to the United States alone at age 12 in 1905. After working on farms and settling in North Dakota, he eventually moved to Rice, Minnesota, with his wife, Ann Marie Heim.

Additionally, the exhibit features the Manea family, who immigrated to the United States in the 1970s following the rise of Fidel Castro in Cuba, which led to the seizure of their family meat shop. The event includes a musical performance of ‘Reina’ at the Paramount Center.
