Paramount+ confirms Star Trek remains core to long-term strategy
Paramount+ has confirmed that the Star Trek franchise remains a core component of its long-term strategy, despite an upcoming gap in new live-action series production. Following the merger of Paramount and Skydance, the streaming service faces its first period without new series in over a decade as current productions approach their conclusions.
Strange New Worlds is set to conclude after a fifth season, and Starfleet Academy has been canceled following its debut; a second season of the latter is scheduled for release next year before the series ends. The only ongoing series is the animated Star Trek Scouts.
Despite these transitions, executives state that the franchise is a foundational pillar of the platform. Leadership is currently working with writers and CBS Studios to develop the next evolution of the property to ensure the brand's continued growth.
