Paramount Announces New ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Film Under Paramount Primal

Paramount Pictures has secured the U.S. rights to the original 1984 screenplay of A Nightmare on Elm Street from the Wes Craven estate, represented by his widow Iya Labunka and son Jonathan Craven. The studio will develop an untitled feature under its new horror‑focused label Paramount Primal, which is led by producers J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules. Labunka said, “We look forward to bringing the world of Wes Craven’s Nightmare on Elm Street to a new and completely engaged generation of fans,” adding that the film will be “set in the world of A Nightmare on Elm Street, based on the original screenplay.” Production will be handled by Labunka, Jonathan Craven and entertainment attorney‑producer Marc Toberoff, with Lifshitz and Margules serving as executive producers. No writer, director, cast or release date has been announced, and fans are already debating whether Robert Englund will reprise Freddy Krueger. The project arrives as Paramount pursues the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which retains the franchise’s international rights.
