Paramount Skydance secures global clearance for $108B Warner Bros. Discovery merger

Paramount Skydance has secured regulatory clearance from 68 jurisdictions for its proposed $108.4 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The eight-month review process included approvals from the European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Brazil, China, and Mexico, among others.

Despite these global clearances and a June 12 finding by the U.S. Department of Justice that the deal would not harm competition, a significant legal hurdle remains in the United States. On July 13, attorneys general from 12 states, led by California, filed a lawsuit to block the merger on the grounds that it would negatively impact market competition.

As a result of this litigation, a court has temporarily halted the transaction, prompting Paramount to suspend the merger process. The legal challenge is currently scheduled for a court hearing in March 2027. Paramount has called on the state attorneys general to engage in good-faith discussions to resolve the dispute.
