Paramount+ to launch free tier offering limited content
Paramount+ is testing a free tier that would provide a curated selection of micro‑dramas, vertical‑format videos, short‑form clips and a limited library of movies and TV episodes. Users would need to create a free account, and the tier is intended to act as a “front porch” to encourage subscriptions to the paid service. The move coincides with plans to merge the technical infrastructure of Paramount+ with Pluto TV later this year and to expand short‑form video feeds and multi‑view sports features.
In parallel, the service added 70 new movies and shows on July 1, including the season‑4 premiere of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” the series finale of “The Chi,” and a live UFC Fight Night event. These programming additions illustrate Paramount+’s strategy to bolster its content lineup while exploring a freemium model.
