Paramythia, Greece Reduces Postal Service to 2.5 Hours Weekly After ELTA Closure

The ELTA post office in the village of Paramythia was permanently closed in February, despite protests from residents and a unanimous vote by the Souli municipal council. All postal duties were transferred to a private courier firm and the former ELTA staff were relocated to Igoumenitsa.

Starting 1 August 2026, a single ELTA mail carrier will operate only on Tuesdays from 09:30 to 12:00 in the local KAPI building, providing a two‑and‑a‑half‑hour weekly window for mail collection and basic postal services. Residents, many of whom are retirees and live in remote hamlets, must now travel to the limited session to receive pensions, bills and correspondence.

The municipality urges citizens to attend the designated hours for “the best possible service,” highlighting the stark reduction from daily in‑person service to a brief weekly appointment.
