Paraná boosts agricultural exports with expanded port facilities and record turkey shipments

The Port of Paranaguá in Paraná has upgraded its cold‑storage capacity for frozen chicken, adding a yard with 5,280 electric hookups for reefers and powering all refrigeration with 100 % renewable electricity certified by I‑REC. The terminal also began electrifying three rubber‑tyred gantry cranes, part of a pilot to replace diesel‑run equipment, and installed a new gas‑insulated substation. Over recent years, the operator CMPort has invested roughly R$ 500 million in modernisation, with a further R$ 1.5 billion planned to further raise handling capacity.

In the same period, Paraná’s turkey‑meat exports surged, reaching 6,000 tonnes between January and May 2026 and generating US$ 29.3 million in revenue – a 105.6 % increase from the previous year. Mexico became the top buyer, boosting its purchases by 272.1 %. Nationally, Brazil exported 27.8 kt of turkey meat, earning US$ 114.9 million, up 30.7 % in volume and 123 % in value compared with the same period in 2025. The export growth reflects higher prices for fresh product, with the average price per tonne rising 55.9 % to US$ 4,100.
