Paraná, Brazil hit by severe hailstorm that blankets farms and homes in ice

A powerful hailstorm struck the western region of Paraná, Brazil, from the night of 28 June to the afternoon of 29 June 2026. Egg‑sized hailstones accumulated in layers up to 30 centimetres, covering yards, lawns, rooftops and crops. In the rural district of Bom Princípio, Toledo, a farm in Sanga Guarani was completely coated in ice, while nearby towns such as Cascavel, Turvo and Ponta Grossa reported extensive damage, power outages and fallen trees.

Officials described the event as a severe thunderstorm system, with some areas receiving around 100 mm of rain in 24 hours. The municipal civil defence in Turvo is distributing roof‑tiles and temporary shelters, and a local campaign is collecting mattresses and blankets for affected families. A possible tornado was reported in Reserva, but authorities are still investigating. No injuries have been confirmed, but agricultural and property losses are being assessed.
