Paraná braces for intense cold front with record low temperatures and heavy rain

A new cold front is expected to move across Paraná on Friday, 19 June, bringing the strongest chill of the season. Meteorologists forecast the most severe cold spell between 23‑25 June, with the southern states likely to record the lowest temperatures of the year. Frost warnings have been issued for the south and southwest regions from 16‑18 June, and the upcoming front will raise the risk of frost and thunderstorms, especially in the northwest, west and southwest districts.

Rainfall is projected to be above average, with some locations in southern Brazil possibly seeing more than 50 mm of precipitation. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) notes significant rain chances across Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul during the 18‑20 June period. In addition, the confirmed El Niño event is expected to increase monthly rainfall totals for Paraná through December, potentially leading to prolonged wet conditions.

Authorities advise residents to stay alert for sudden temperature drops, heavy showers and possible flooding, and to take precautions against frost damage to crops and livestock.
