Paraná Deputy proposes new bilingual public school network
State Deputy Maria Victoria (PP) has proposed the creation of a bilingual public school network in Paraná, Brazil. This initiative aims to expand English language instruction within the state's public education system, seeking to provide students in the public sector with the same linguistic opportunities currently concentrated in private institutions.
The proposal builds upon the existing ‘Inglês Paraná Kids’ program, an initiative spearheaded by Victoria that introduced English instruction to the early years of elementary school. That program previously secured R$ 70 million in funding through the support of the State Assembly to implement teacher training and didactic materials for students in the 1st through 5th grades.
The new plan for a regionalized bilingual network intends to utilize pilot schools, specialized teacher qualification, and specific pedagogical materials to ensure a planned and progressive expansion across different regions of the state.
