Paraná energy sector receives R$120 million investment and reports 42% profit jump

The Maringá Energia II cogeneration plant in Jacarezinho, Paraná, was inaugurated with a R$120 million investment, doubling its capacity to 50 MWh and earmarking 35 MWh for export. Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior highlighted the project’s role in converting sugar‑cane bagasse into clean electricity and boosting regional employment.

In the same period, state utility Copel posted a recurring net profit of R$645.1 million for the second quarter, a 42.6% year‑on‑year increase, and an EBITDA of R$1.6 billion. Growth was driven by higher electricity sales, hotter temperatures and gains from generation and commercialization. Copel also invested R$957.2 million in grid modernization and expanded hydro‑electric capacity, maintaining a net‑debt‑to‑EBITDA ratio of 2.9.
