Paraná energy transition: New biomethane and green ammonia projects

In Paraná, Brazil, new initiatives are advancing the energy transition within the industrial and transport sectors. Cia Verde and Compagas have established a partnership to increase the use of natural gas and biomethane in heavy road freight. The agreement includes the installation of a refueling point at Cia Verde’s headquarters in Araucária. Cia Verde currently operates 36 gas-powered trucks and plans to add 100 more as part of its fleet expansion. This aligns with Compagas’s ‘Sustainable Corridors’ project, which aims to integrate major road routes in Paraná with the Port of Paranaguá and neighboring states.

Separately, Hycom Green Ammonia has presented a project to produce e-ammonia using green hydrogen via water electrolysis in the Campos Gerais region. The proposal was shared with the Commercial, Industrial, and Business Association of Ponta Grossa (ACIPG). While the project has obtained a Preliminary Environmental License, it remains in the development phase, pending technical, regulatory, and investment milestones. Local leaders noted that such innovations bring ESG and carbon credit discussions closer to the regional economic reality.
