Paraná implements classroom upgrades and reports higher education growth
The state government of Paraná has replaced 443 wooden classrooms with permanent masonry structures since 2019. This R$ 101.2 million investment has reached 121 schools across 79 municipalities, covering 74.7% of the 593 wooden classrooms that existed in the state network prior to the initiative. The new classrooms utilize an ecological construction system with galvanized steel to improve thermal and acoustic comfort while ensuring durability and faster installation. The government aims to replace 100% of the state's wooden classrooms, with a current process underway to replace an additional 128 rooms in 47 schools.
In the higher education sector, Paraná reports over 711,000 students enrolled across more than one hundred institutions. Data from the 16th Higher Education Map in Brazil shows a growing trend in distance learning (EAD), which now accounts for 56.4% of total enrollments (410,263 students) compared to 43.6% for in-person courses (310,203 students). The private sector manages 81.2% of the total student population, holding a 97.9% share of all EAD enrollments. While in-person enrollments saw a 1.1% increase from the previous year, EAD enrollments grew by 5.3%.
