Paraná launches NUCRISE to protect disaster victims

The Public Defender's Office of the State of Paraná (DPE-PR) has launched the Nucleus for the Protection of Vulnerable People in Socio-Environmental Crises (NUCRISE). The specialized structure was introduced in Curitiba to strengthen legal protection for populations affected by extreme climate events and disasters.

Coordinated by public defender Ingrid Lima Vieira Meira, the nucleus aims to provide permanent, preventive, and multidisciplinary support. Its mission includes risk reduction, strengthening public policies, and ensuring the rights of vulnerable populations. The initiative follows recent severe weather incidents in the region, such as tornadoes in Piraí do Sul and Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, which caused significant human and material losses.
