Paraná lavender tourism generates millions in revenue
The state of Paraná is experiencing an economic and cultural transformation driven by lavender cultivation, a phenomenon known as ‘purple tourism’. Created in 2022 by the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Rural do Paraná (IDR-Paraná), the Lavender Route aims to stimulate rural tourism and lavender production across the region.
Since its inception, the route has attracted over 200,000 visitors and generated more than 13 million reais in gross income during its first three years. Currently, 13 properties participate in the route, with 20 more awaiting inclusion. The route spans six cities: Araucária, Carambeí, Londrina, Palmeira, Toledo, and Umuarama.
Visitors to these rural properties can engage in various activities, including purchasing essential oils, cosmetics, and handicrafts, or participating in colonial breakfasts, picnics, and photography sessions. The Het Dorp Vilarejo Holandês in Carambeí features the state's largest lavender field at 1.5 hectares and includes a Lavender Museum. The peak flowering period, which is the best time for visitation, occurs between August and October.
