Paraná Legislature Passes Bills to Expand Rescue Alerts and Prevent Choking

The Assembleia Legislativa do Paraná is set to vote on Project Law 544/2025, which would broaden the Alerta para Resgate de Pessoas (ARP) system beyond children and adolescents to include seniors, people with disabilities and individuals on the autism spectrum. The proposal was prompted by the recent death of five‑year‑old non‑verbal autistic boy João Gabriel, who was found dead after two days missing in Araucária.

In a separate measure, the legislature approved a law to promote public education on choking prevention and emergency response. The bill, originally authored by deputy known as Cobra Repórter and amended by Alexandre Amaro, mandates campaigns on the Heimlich maneuver, inclusion of basic first‑aid training in schools, and voluntary certification for staff in food‑service establishments. Both initiatives passed first and second readings in the state assembly.
