Paraná man sentenced for shooting police commissioner

Alberto Morales has been sentenced to five years and five months in prison for shooting Police Commissioner Gastón Heinze at the Dr. Ramón Carrillo Health Center in Paraná.

The incident occurred on March 5, 2026, when Morales seized a service weapon from Officer Lautaro Silvestre during a struggle and fired two shots. One bullet struck Heinze in the upper left thigh, causing an entry and exit wound, while the officer also suffered an elbow fracture from a subsequent fall. The shooting occurred in a medical facility where doctors, nurses, and patients were present.

The sentence was reached through an abbreviated trial agreement. The court unified this new sentence with a previous 2023 conditional sentence related to narcotics offenses, resulting in a longer term of effective imprisonment. Beyond physical injuries, Heinze is receiving psychological treatment for post-traumatic stress following the attack.
