Santa Catarina initiatives focus on environmental oversight and Blue Economy

The state of Santa Catarina is advancing several strategic initiatives focused on environmental management and economic development. The Institute of the Environment of Santa Catarina (IMA) has launched a training program for Florianópolis municipal environmental inspectors (Floram). This cooperation aims to implement the Environmental Infractions Management and Monitoring System (GAIA) to standardize and improve administrative procedures and technological use in environmental oversight.

Simultaneously, the state is working to structure a formal Blue Economy policy. Through the Secretariat of the Environment and Green Economy (Semae), Santa Catarina is hosting the 1st Blue Economy Workshop. The initiative seeks to integrate economic development with coastal planning and sustainability, bringing together sectors such as industrial and artisanal fishing, ports, mariculture, nautical industry, and tourism to transition from a traditional maritime economy to a structured Blue Economy.
