Regional public safety and environmental initiatives reported across Brazil

Various regional initiatives in Brazil are addressing public safety, environmental conservation, and urban management.

In Caraguatatuba, engineering students from the Instituto Federal de São Paulo (IFSP) presented projects to the Civil Defense to mitigate landslide and flooding risks in the Jardim Casa Branca neighborhood. These proposals include a 133-meter biovalley for rainwater drainage and a community garden. Additionally, environmental actions in the same city collected 389 kg of waste from beaches and trails between July and August.

In Ubatuba, the municipal government has extended the registration deadline for the Municipal Tourism Council (CMT) to September 26. The city is also hiring 40 temporary lifeguards to bolster aquatic rescue services following a period that saw 356 drowning occurrences and nine deaths.

In Paraná, the State Civil Defense has opened registrations for a free 30-hour online volunteer training course, available until September 30, to prepare citizens for disaster response and humanitarian logistics.

Meanwhile, in Balneário Camboriú, a task force coordinated by Cosip has removed over 1.5 tons of obsolete wiring from poles on Avenida Atlântica to improve safety and reduce visual pollution.
