Paraná police conclude investigation into fatal BR-373 collision

The Civil Police of Paraná has concluded its investigation into the fatal collision on the BR-373 highway that occurred on August 19, resulting in 23 deaths. The accident involved a Mega Trans truck transporting swine and a micro-bus belonging to the Imbituva Health Department, which was transporting patients for medical appointments.

Investigators determined that the crash was caused by a combination of factors from both vehicles. The truck entered the opposite lane, traveling at 80 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, and showed signs of brake wear that reduced its stopping efficiency. Additionally, the truck driver had accessed WhatsApp approximately 17 minutes before the impact, suggesting potential distraction.

The micro-bus was also found to be speeding, traveling at 101 km/h at the moment of impact, which was 41 km/h over the legal limit. Toxicology reports for both drivers were negative for alcohol and drugs. Because both drivers died in the accident, police have suggested the archiving of the inquiry.
