Paraná police operation targets students commemorating La Noche de los Lápices

A police operation in Paraná, Argentina, targeted students and young activists who were using stencils and paint to promote activities commemorating ‘La Noche de los Lápices’. The incident occurred near Plaza Alberdi as part of preparations for the September 16 commemorations, which honor secondary students disappeared during the military dictatorship.

Human rights organizations and legal representatives have criticized the scale of the intervention. Lawyer José Iparraguirre, representing the Multisectorial de Derechos Humanos de Entre Ríos, described the deployment as ‘absolutely disproportionate,’ noting the presence of multiple vehicles and officers armed with long weapons. The activists involved were reportedly painting over existing graffiti and posters to spread information about the upcoming events.
