Paraná police violence videos sold on Instagram spark investigation

Authorities in Brazil’s southern state of Paraná have launched a joint investigation after an Instagram profile with nearly 23,000 followers posted graphic videos of deaths, injuries and alleged torture, all linked to the Polícia Militar do Paraná. The page directed viewers to a Telegram channel where access to additional footage was sold through Pix payments.

The Secretaria de Segurança Pública do Paraná, led by Secretary Hudson Teixeira, and the Ministério Público do Paraná identified the page’s operator as a 22‑year‑old man with no formal ties to the police. An inquiry is also examining the participation of police officers who appeared in some posts, with their identities blurred in investigative documents. Officials said the scheme constitutes a serious breach of law and human dignity and that any police involvement will be prosecuted under existing legislation.
