Paraná quadrilha team journeys 3,300 km to Maceió for Brazil’s national dance championship

A 56‑member folk‑dance group from the Federal Institute of Paraná campus in Barracão set out on a 3,300‑kilometre bus trip on 21 July to represent the state at the Brazilian Quadrilha Junina Championship in Maceió, Alagoas. The competition runs from 23 to 26 July at the Parque da Pecuária José da Silva Nogueira and brings together more than 20 states and the Federal District, with over 3,000 dancers competing for the national title.

The event, organized by the Confederação Nacional de Quadrilhas Juninas e Grupos Folclóricos do Brasil, also features cultural activities such as forró concerts, regional gastronomy, and craft exhibitions. Local Alagoas groups like Sanfona do Rei, Gonzagão, Fazendinha and Luar do Sertão are contesting the state‑wide qualifiers, while entries from São Paulo, Pernambuco, Roraima and other regions present themed performances ranging from apocalyptic reflections to literary‑cordel tributes.
