Paraná River fishing ban issued in Chaco Province

The Chaco Province Undersecretariat of Environment has implemented an extraordinary fishing ban on a specific section of the Paraná River. The decision, led by Mariano Moro, follows the detection of an exceptionally large school of fish in the area.

The ban, established through Disposition No. 056/2026, is a preventive and temporary measure intended to prevent overfishing and maintain the fluvial ecosystem's balance. It covers the stretch of the river between kilometers 1109 and 1150. The measure was coordinated with authorities from Corrientes Province to ensure unified management of the shared jurisdiction.

A unique aspect of this regulation is its dynamic protection scheme: if the fish concentration moves outside the initially defined boundaries, the ban will follow the school regardless of its new location. All forms of fishing—commercial, sporting, and subsistence—are prohibited within the affected area. The Environmental Supervision Brigade (BOA) will conduct continuous patrols and fluvial controls to enforce the measure, with violators facing fines and disqualifications.
