Paraná River reaches 2.71 m in Rosario, prompting safety alerts

The water level of the Paraná River in the port of Rosario rose to 2.71 meters, a figure the Instituto Nacional del Agua (INA) classifies as within the normal range for this time of year. The gradual increase is linked to higher rainfall in Brazil and northern Argentina and to the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to raise river flows later in the year.

Prefectura Naval Argentina warned that, although a sudden surge is not anticipated, boaters should take extra precautions. Recommendations include wearing life jackets at all times, avoiding areas with floating vegetation, camalotes and debris, respecting designated navigation zones, and keeping continuous contact with coast‑guard services. The rise has already altered the riverbank, reducing beach areas and steepening some banks. Authorities will continue daily monitoring and will issue alerts should the level approach the five‑meter threshold that triggers higher‑level warnings.
