Paraná’s grain storage ranks third in Brazil as crop forecast rises

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Paraná holds the third‑largest agricultural storage network in Brazil, with 1,372 storage facilities and an installed capacity of 35.7 million tonnes – 16.6 % of the national total. This capacity is more than twice that of all Northeast states combined. Silos account for 20.7 million tonnes (about 58 % of the total), while grain and bulk warehouses add another 10.5 million tonnes and conventional, structural and inflatable stores contribute 4.5 million tonnes. The municipality with the highest capacity is Ponta Grossa (2.6 million tonnes), followed by Paranaguá, Guarapuava and Toledo.

The IBGE’s May crop outlook shows Paraná increasing its production by 261,100 tonnes, maintaining its position as the second‑largest national producer of cereals, legumes and oilseeds with 13.6 % of total output. Soybeans are projected at 22.0 million tonnes, the second‑largest amount in the country, while corn is estimated at 17.5 million tonnes, also second nationally. Brazil’s total agricultural production is expected to reach 350.4 million tonnes, with a record‑high national soybean harvest of 174.6 million tonnes.
