Paraná state cuts vehicle tax, boosts free vet‑mobile vaccinations

The Paraná state government reduced the vehicle property tax (IPVA) from 3.5% to 1.9% of a car's value, making it the lowest rate in Brazil. After the cut, more than 73% of the 4.2 million‑vehicle fleet paid the tax in the first half of 2026, and the number of delinquent taxpayers fell from 874,800 to 783,200. Revenue reached R$ 3.79 billion, 83.5% of the year's forecast, which the state finance secretary Norberto Ortigara said will support health, education, security and infrastructure spending.

In parallel, the Vet‑Móvel Paraná project completed its first month, logging 32,343 appointments and 10,111 free veterinary services in 18 municipalities. The program, run by the Superintendence‑General of Animal Protection under the State Secretariat of Sustainable Development, treated 7,255 dogs and 2,856 cats, focusing initially on areas with low human development indices. Superintendent Rodrigo Araújo Rodrigues highlighted the initiative's role in expanding preventive animal health care and plans to expand to larger cities from July onward.
