Paraná state launches school bathroom inspections after camera discovery

The Paraná State Secretariat of Education (Seed-PR) has ordered inspections of bathrooms and locker rooms across all state schools to identify unauthorized surveillance cameras or recording devices. The measure follows the discovery of two filming devices in the restrooms of the Érico Veríssimo Civic-Military College in Cambé, northern Paraná.

The investigation into the Cambé incident has led to the removal of the school's director, vice-director, and two military police officers. The Paraná Public Ministry has also opened a civil and criminal investigation into the matter.

To prevent future occurrences, the state issued Resolution No. 5.206/2026, which strictly prohibits the installation or use of video monitoring and any image-capturing devices in school bathrooms, toilets, and locker rooms. Inspections will be conducted by the Tutor-Zelador Program under the Paranaense Institute for Educational Development (Fundepar) across 32 regional education centers. Violations may result in administrative, civil, and criminal liability.
