Paraná faces temperature drop and frost risk from cold air mass
A cold and dry air mass, driven by an extratropical cyclone in the Atlantic, is causing a significant drop in temperatures across Paraná and southern Brazil. The weather shift brings a reprieve from recent rains and favors sunny conditions, though it introduces the risk of frost.
In the southern half of Paraná, minimum temperatures are expected to fall below 10°C, with some areas in the Center-South potentially reaching as low as 2°C or 5°C. The National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) has warned of possible light frost in the Center-South of Paraná and northern Santa Catarina. This weather event coincides with the start of the 2026/27 soybean season, where Paraná has already sown 36% of its area. While no immediate crop damage has been reported, the frost poses a potential risk to newly sown crops.
In contrast, the northern regions of the state are expected to remain warmer, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 25°C or 26°C under clearer skies. The Simepar meteorology system indicates that while the cold is intense during early morning hours, temperatures are expected to recover during the afternoons as the sun predominates.
