Paraná posts record tobacco harvest and grain production in 2026

The Brazilian state of Paraná announced a record tobacco harvest for the 2025/2026 cycle, reaching 213,700 tonnes – a 7% increase over the previous year – driven by expanding cultivated area to a historic 86,800 hectares. Despite the production surge, average farm‑gate prices fell 3% in May to R$18.71 per kilogram.

Commercialisation of the tobacco crop lagged, with 82.5% of the total volume sold by late June, down from 96.3% a year earlier. Santa Catarina and Paraná posted high sales rates of 91.7% and 95%, respectively, while Rio Grande do Sul lagged at 67.9%, largely because of slower movement in the Virgínia variety. Meanwhile, Paraná also recorded a grain‑summer harvest of 26.3 million tonnes, 6% above the previous season, led by 21.8 million tonnes of soybeans and 4.1 million tonnes of corn, supported by expanded planting areas and favorable weather.
