Paraná: Young man found dead after boat accident during fishing tournament

Matheus Gustavo Schuh, a 22-year-old athlete, was found dead after disappearing during a fishing tournament at the Salto Santiago Dam in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, Paraná. The accident occurred on September 12 when a steering cable on his boat snapped, causing the vessel to spin out of control and throw all three occupants into the water.

While two other passengers were rescued by nearby boaters, Schuh submerged and could not be immediately reached. None of the occupants were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident. Following a nine-day search operation involving divers, sonar, and drones, his body was located on Sunday, September 20, at a depth of approximately 30 meters.

Schuh, who was also a motocross competitor, was honored with a motorcycle procession during his funeral in Laranjeiras do Sul.
