Paranaguá celebrates 378th anniversary with concerts while spotlighting its historic port

The Brazilian city of Paranaguá marked its 378th anniversary with a series of cultural events. National acts Projeto Samba 90 Graus performed on 25 July at the Praça de Eventos, followed by the pop group Jeito Moleque on 28 July. The celebrations also included a religious march, the 18th Marcha para Jesus, and other local performances slated for 29 July.

Paranaguá is also recognised as the oldest settlement in the state of Paraná, with origins traced back to around 1550 and an official charter dated 29 July 1648. The city houses the Port of Dom Pedro II, inaugurated in 1935 and now the largest bulk‑grain port in Latin America, handling roughly 40 million tonnes of cargo each year. Tourist attractions such as Ilha do Mel in the Baía de Paranaguá draw visitors, subject to a daily cap of 5,000 people.
