Paranaguá port moves 690,000 TEUs in Jan‑May 2026

The Terminal de Contêineres de Paranaguá (TCP) handled 690,000 twenty‑foot containers (TEUs) from January to May 2026, a 2% rise over the same period in 2025. Full‑cargo volumes grew 7% to 4.8 million tonnes, while exports reached 3.5 million tonnes (+8%) and imports 1.3 million tonnes (+6%). Refrigerated containers (reefers) totaled 64,470 units, up 9%, supported by Brazil’s largest reefers yard with 5,280 electric plugs.

The port operates 22 weekly maritime services, received 427 vessels, and integrated multimodal traffic with 545 trains and 267,000 trucks. Meat and frozen products remained the export leader, with 1.7 million tonnes shipped (+13%). Automotive imports were driven by 236,000 tonnes of vehicle parts.

Portos do Paraná, the port authority, reported that the reefers yard runs on certified renewable electricity (I‑REC) and highlighted a pilot project converting three diesel‑powered RTGs to electric operation. Investments of roughly R$ 500 million have already upgraded the facility, with a further R$ 1.5 billion planned. The terminal holds ISO 50001 certification and aims to reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining competitiveness in global meat and protein supply chains.
