Paraná's digital expansion fuels startup growth and record micro‑entrepreneur registrations

After São Paulo, Paraná has become Brazil's second most digitally active state, with Curitiba emerging as a hub for startups, e‑commerce platforms and cloud‑based services. The rise in online marketplaces and digital transactions has highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, as businesses and remote workers face increasing phishing attacks and network‑security risks.

A recent Dieese study shows that the number of micro‑entrepreneurs (MEIs) in Paraná reached 1.128 million in June 2026, representing 18 % of the state’s employed population and 77.3 % of self‑employed workers. This makes Paraná the fourth‑largest state for MEIs in Brazil, behind São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. The MEI count grew 93.4 % since 2019, outpacing the national increase of 82 %. Bricklayers, hairdressers and sales‑promotion workers lead the MEI categories, reflecting a broad formalisation of small‑business activity across the state.
