Paraíso farmer killed after confronting alleged thief

A 65-year-old Haitian farmer, known by the nickname ‘Papá Dios’, was found dead on Thursday afternoon at Loma Agüita Blanca, located on the Paraíso-Cachote road in Paraíso.

According to the victim's son, Ricardo Lucas, the death occurred after the farmer confronted a 35-year-old man, identified as ‘Jimmy’, who was allegedly stealing roosters and yautía (root vegetables) from the property. The son claims the suspect attacked his father with a stick and a stone to the head during the confrontation and subsequently fled the scene.

The victim's family has called for justice and requested that the Central Directorate of Investigation (Dicrim) locate and arrest the suspect. The body was examined by medical examiners and representatives from the Public Ministry before being sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) in Azua.
