Paraty advances new sewage treatment plant construction

Construction of a new sewage treatment plant (ETE) in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, has reached a structural milestone with the concreting of the bioreactor base. The project uses approximately 140 m³ of concrete for the foundation of this primary biological treatment unit.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Paraty City Hall, the Rio de Janeiro State Government, and the State Environmental Institute (INEA), funded by the State Environmental Fund (FECAM). The first phase, expected to be completed by April 2028, aims to treat 4 million liters of sewage per day, serving roughly 45% of the local population. This infrastructure is intended to reduce pollution in urban rivers and beaches, supporting the environmental preservation required for the city's status as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The plant is designed with modular expansion capabilities, allowing future capacity to reach up to 140 liters per second to accommodate urban growth.
