Parauapebas City Council demands answers on water crisis

The Parauapebas City Council has taken action regarding the ongoing water supply crisis in the municipality. Council members approved Requirement No. 368/2026, authored by Councilman Elvis Silva Cruz, to demand explanations from both the local government and the utility provider, Águas do Pará.

The inquiry seeks to address frequent complaints concerning water shortages, rationing, and low pressure across various neighborhoods. Specifically, the council is requesting a comprehensive list of neighborhoods and residential areas that lack daily and continuous water service, along with the causes and expected timelines for regularization.

Additionally, the council is questioning the collection of availability fees, the level of investment made by the concessionaire, and the long-term timeline for the universalization of water and sewage services, which is currently projected for 2039. This follows previous incidents where residents in neighborhoods such as Minérios and Vila Nova I and II staged protests due to prolonged service interruptions.
