Parco delle Serre officials accused of obstructing environmental protections

Local opposition and political accusations have emerged regarding the management of the Parco delle Serre. Critics allege that Regional Environment Councilor Montuoro and Park Commissioner Francesco Costantino are acting on instructions from the Fratelli d'Italia party to obstruct the expansion of protected areas.

For over a year, local municipalities have sought to join the Park or expand existing protected zones to prevent the installation of large-scale wind turbines and photovoltaic panels. A process to incorporate approximately 5,000 hectares of new territory into the Park was nearing final approval; however, the Commissioner requested a suspension of the procedure in July to conduct further studies. Critics claim this move was intended to stall the bureaucratic process and allow for unregulated energy infrastructure development in the region.
