Parco Faunistico La Torbiera’s ocelot cub birth tops Google trends

A newborn ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) was announced by the Parco Faunistico La Torbiera in Agrate Conturbia, Novara province, Italy. The park posted on Facebook that the cub, part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP), was born a few days earlier and is currently safe with its mother while beginning to explore its enclosure.

The word “cucciolo” entered the top ten of Google’s daily trends, making the birth a viral web story. Park officials said, “Una nuova vita alla Torbiera – con grande emozione siamo felici di condividere una splendida notizia: la nascita di un cucciolo di ocelot.” They added, “Ogni nascita ci ricorda quanto sia importante il lavoro quotidiano svolto dagli zoo moderni nella tutela delle specie minacciate e nella salvaguardia della biodiversità.”
