Parcova hosts first Festivalul Babelor to celebrate traditional dessert

The first edition of the Festivalul Babelor was held in the commune of Parcova, Edineț district, to celebrate the traditional dessert known as ‘Baba neagră’. The event brought together local women from across northern Moldova to showcase traditional recipes and modern reinterpretations of the dish.

Participants presented various versions of the dessert, including ‘Baba albă’, cheese-based versions, and variations using cherry jam, apples, or plums. A key traditional element mentioned is the addition of homemade brandy (rachiu) to the mixture, which helps create specific textures during the baking process. Organizer Diana Malîi described the festival as a way to rediscover family recipes and preserve ancestral culinary treasures.
