Pardubice Republic Square redevelopment faces legal appeal
The planned redevelopment of Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky) in Pardubice, estimated to cost approximately 186 million CZK, is facing legal delays. PSN Grand, the owner of the Grand department store, has filed a 15-page appeal against the construction permit granted to the city in August.
The dispute centers on logistics and accessibility. The company argues that the project fails to adequately address the supply needs of the department store, specifically regarding delivery windows and service vehicles. The current plan limits delivery access to two slots (6:00–9:00 and 17:00–19:00) and proposes the removal of existing parking and maneuvering areas in favor of greenery, a fountain, and pedestrian spaces. PSN Grand claims there is insufficient analysis to prove these limited windows will suffice for the building's daily operations.
Pardubice Mayor Jan Nadrchal has downplayed the appeal, suggesting the documentation is high quality and that the company's objections may be an attempt to stall the project. If the project proceeds as planned, work is expected to begin next year and conclude in 2029.
