Parental support and administrative rights for newborns
Preparing for a newborn involves managing medical follow-ups, administrative rights, and social benefits. To reduce stress after leaving the maternity ward, it is recommended to arrange home visits from midwives or pediatricians during the third trimester of pregnancy.
Regarding social rights, parents should be aware of various leave options. In addition to standard maternity and paternity leave, new regulations starting July 1, 2026, will allow parents to take one or two months of additional birth leave. This applies to employees, self-employed workers, and job seekers, though timely notification to employers is essential.
Financial support, such as the birth grant provided by the CAF, requires a pregnancy declaration to be completed before the end of the third month. Proper coordination between the Health Insurance (Assurance Maladie) and the CAF ensures the automatic disbursement of these funds.
