Paphos father arrested for leaving 11-year-old daughter alone

A single father has been arrested in Paphos, Cyprus, after leaving his 11-year-old daughter unsupervised in their home for two days. The incident came to light on August 20, 2026, after concerned neighbors alerted authorities that the girl appeared to be entirely alone.

Police found the child in the apartment, and the Social Welfare Services immediately took over her care and protection. The father was apprehended by police at the Paphos airport upon his return from Albania. He had reportedly traveled to Tirana to watch a UEFA Conference League play-off match between Dinamo Tirana and the Cypriot club FC Pafos.

The man was presented to the district court and subsequently released on a $15,000 bail payment. His first court appearance is scheduled for September 18, 2026.
